Preventative Dental Health

Regular oral exams allow Dr. Thornton to thoroughly evaluate and monitor your dental health. During your visit, we will check for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, oral cancer, and other issues. Oral exams include a visual inspection of the teeth, gums, tongue, palate, and other tissues. Digital X-rays and advanced diagnostic procedures may also be recommended to screen for problems between visits. Oral exams help spot issues early on, preventing the progression of disease.

Dr. Thornton is passionate about Preventative Dentistry and patient education. Good oral hygiene is crucial for preventing cavities and keeping your teeth, gums, and mouth healthy. Dr. Thornton and our staff can evaluate your current home routine and offer tips to improve your habits. We may suggest more effective brushing and flossing techniques, recommend helpful products like electric toothbrushes, and discuss other preventative treatments that can protect your oral health long-term.

Dental cleanings are vital for preventing tooth decay and gum disease. We recommend that you visit Dr. Thornton at least two times per year for a professional teeth cleaning. During your appointment, we will work to thoroughly clean your teeth and remove built-up plaque and tartar both above and below the gum line. For children and younger patients, we can also apply dental sealants to protect against cavities. Sealants act like a protective shield and are applied to the chewing surfaces of the teeth. Routine cleanings can help your teeth and gums stay healthy for years to come.

Gum disease is a serious problem that can lead to tooth loss if left untreated. Dr. Thornton provides periodontal treatments to address gum disease and eliminate harmful bacteria from the mouth. Treatments may include deep cleanings, antimicrobials, and other techniques that help remove bacteria and plaque from below the gum line. Identifying gum disease while it’s in early stages can prevent it from progressing and wreaking havoc on your oral health. Let our team help you maintain excellent periodontal health!
