🫁 When Breathing Isn’t Easy: A Biologic Approach to Airway Health

Hello, I’m Dr. Robert H. Thornton, DMD, and for more than 25 years, I’ve had the privilege of caring for patients and families here. I truly love practicing dentistry here in the Tupelo community, and I continue to be humbled by the loyalty and trust my patients have placed in me and my team over the years.

As a Biologic and Bioesthetic Dentist with advanced training in Airway Health & Breathing Disorders Therapy, one area I’m especially passionate about is helping patients understand how their airway can affect their sleep, breathing, comfort, and overall quality of life.

Airway problems can affect far more than a good night’s sleep. Patients often come to me struggling with snoring, daytime fatigue, headaches, dry mouth, difficulty concentrating, restless sleep, or waking up gasping or choking. These symptoms may be associated with Sleep Apnea or other forms of Sleep Disordered Breathing.

🦷 My approach looks beyond the symptoms.

Throughout my career, I’ve pursued extensive continuing education and advanced study including The OBI Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry, The Stewart Center for Minimally Invasive Dental Medicine, and The Center for Professional Development (formerly The Schuster Center). This training allows me to take a comprehensive, individualized approach to evaluating airway health and helping patients explore treatment options.

Depending on the patient’s individual needs, care may include MAGO Therapy (Maxillary Anterior Guided Orthotic), the VIVOS® System, Myofunctional Therapy, Night Guards, and other minimally invasive approaches.

👧 Airway health is important for children, too. Sleep Disordered Breathing in children can sometimes appear in unexpected ways, including poor sleep, difficulty concentrating, behavioral concerns, and developmental issues. Evaluating a child’s breathing and sleep may help uncover an important piece of the puzzle.

Every patient, and every airway, is different. That’s why I believe in listening carefully, evaluating thoroughly, and developing an individualized approach with compassion and respect.

It is an honor to serve the Tupelo community, and I’m incredibly grateful to the patients and families who have trusted us with their care since I began practicing dentistry in 2000.

If you or someone you love is struggling with sleep, breathing, or possible airway concerns, my team and I would be honored to help you explore your options.

Here’s to better breathing, more restful sleep, and healthier days ahead!
